Lavandula Angustifolia Hidcote Blue

Lavendula angustifolia 'Hidcote', or as it's more commonly known, English lavender, is a small and aromatic evergreen shrub that produces narrow, tubular spikes throughout the summer months. This bushy dwarf evergreen shrub produces delightfully aromatic deep violet flowers, each sized around 3-4cm in length. Lavender is a brilliant pollinator attraction, inviting all kinds wildlife to it's scented blooms. A perfect option for planting along paths, in borders, or even in containers. Grows to an average height of 10-50cm in height and a spread of 50cm to 1m over 2-5 years.

Planting

Soil Type

Well drained fertile soil.

Lavender can tolerate most types of soil, providing that it is relatively fertile and well drained. Locate in a sunny place to get the best of them, and are suitable for pots, borders or even rockeries. Best planted in April or May as the soil will be a lot warmer. Avoid planting in cold and wet soil is it could rot the root. Space plants around 90cm apart if growing in groups. Water regularly, especially in dry weather.
Carefully trim back in April. Flowers can be dried for potpourri.
