Acer palmatum Taylor

Acer palmatum Taylor (Japanese Maple) produces copious amounts of ornamental lobed foliage in lime green and cream, which emerges in spring with a vivid salmon pink hue (as illustrated). As the leaves mature, the pink fades but the variegation remains attractive throughout the summer. In autumn, the cream parts of the leaves are flushed entirely lime green before they drop. Compact enough for large patio pots, but can still make an impact even in the smallest gardens. Eventual height 3m in 10 years. 2 Litre potted plants supplied.

Planting

Soil Type

Fertile, well drained soil

Plant in fertile, well drained and moist soil. Acer shrubs prefer sunny or partial shaded areas, and can also be grown in pots. If growing in pots make sure that the pot is large enough to support the shrub and that it also has plenty of drainage holes. Use John Innes compost if planting in pots.
Acers should be watered on a regular basis, which will be even more important in hot Summers. Although its not necessary, you can prune back or cut dead wood in Spring.
